Gaming Rig

Nowadays, getting the best isn't always the best, especially when it comes to gaming. Yes a 6 core cpu is more awesome then a quad core, but is it truly needed? No, sadly today's games don't use more then quad, and that's only a few games that really push the limits of cpu...

that being said, graphics have had a change, where we look at high end platforms to be able to compete with high end workstations.

Of course the price is steep, and it's not practical for the average gamer to fork over 1700 for a quad sli setup of GTX590 FTW liquid cool...

So looking at the options, I'm at a fork in the road. There is, 3 options, 1, is to wait it out for the next socket type to come out. 2 is to go 1366 and get a x58 build running i7... no bottleneck in multigpu setups...

the other is... p67 with nf200 chipset... socket 1155, now this is the newer socket for the i5 K series, or the ones with turbo on basically. built on the 32 nm these are ideal for gaming, getting the most bang for the buck, seeing as the i5 2500k is unlocked so the potential to oc and compete with the EE series is very possible.

but the question is... will it get outdated? then I realized, I'm on an outdated system, c2d wolfdale is antique in the tech world. for most ppl... that's still brand spanking new...

well... i'm not most ppl, i waste my money on a lot of meaningless shit so... i can't show for it.

for now... considering a graphic card upgrade... GTX570...

it's not the GTX580 but it's a lot easier on the wallet...

SLI this... possibly on ASUS WS Revolution Rev2 board... (p67 and nf200) 4-8gigs of ram... i got a pretty decent gaming comp.

pretty decent is an understatement as a single 570 can handle a lot. the only part is, no triple channel ddr3 and can't really go further then dual sli rather then quad sli or tri sli.

then again, it's not like i can really afford to buy a tri or quad sli setup... so this may be the most practical...

So the final build is

ASUS WS Revolution Rev2 (or was it 3?) P67 NF200 board
intel i5 2500k cpu
g.skill vengeance? ram, what ever high end ram total of 8 gigs... (4 sticks of 2 gigs)
eVGA GTX570 SC (later sli)
power supply... 1200 corsair or thermaltake single rail and sli ready 80 plus certified, preferably GOLD.
hdd... unknown, i can't really make up my mind, since i'm pushing nearly 4tb on my current rig...
i really don't want to do that since... it's a bit much.

current rig could use a ram upgrade, as well as hdd upgrade, and gpu upgrade... xD

but yeah, case, i'll place my current rig in a p180 case, and place the new stuff into my antec twelve hundred full tower... which i think would be very ideal. xD

catch up

so games, what have i played recently.

Well now that I own a tegra 2 phone, the Motorola Atrix, it's surprising how powerful this phone is.

Monster Madness is on xbox live acrcade, as well as the android market for tegra 2 owners.

the game port is only a lil bit different, that being said, it handles and is nearly similar in every way, not even really a port but a conversion. only problem is the game hangs in one mission so i haven't beaten it... freakin' a

on other news, homefront was disappointing, i really was looking forward to having something personal, but the graphics are outdated, and the gameplay was mediocre.

w40k retribution was fun, and i'll write a review if i get around to it.

l4d2, killing floor, are recent games i bought off steam.

crysis 2 was fun.

oops out of time.

games games games

SO i fired up KotoR 2 sith lords, due to the recent interest in saber making that i got from one of my friends posting pics of their ultrasabers...

whcih in turn got me back into star wars at like 200% interest.

that being said. some games i've played recently

James Bond Blood Stone, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Halo Reach, Black Ops, MoH 2010, NFS Hot Pursuit

i mean i prolly played a lot more, i just can't remember, oh and Civilazatioon V

anyhow,

Blood stone, was short, felt like maybe tops 4 hrs, story wise, it was a lot like a movie, very linear, made me wonder how lucky this bugger is since i died a few times, and well... u can't die if this is real at all... so he has to be perfect every bloody time... wow, anyway, looking forward to the new film to follow, not really an interesting game and the controls aren't that great.

AC brotherhood is just fucking epic. my fav game in the AC series, and one of my all time fav games in general. the city is just bloody beautiful, the gameplay is fun, immensely fun, the controls are... still glitchy as always but what can you do? the puzzles aren't hard to understand... except for the truth stuff, but the controls can be a handful (like jumping off shit that u don't mean to) story wise... ooo i'm jus doing all the side missions cuz it's so fucking good that i gotta pace it. overall, a keeper.

Halo Reach has been around for a bit now, it's good, story was fun, muti is ok, but i got other games, it was, after all, a game to get me carried over to other games and to go back to.

BlackOps was a pleasant surprise, i thought it might be bad, but they pulled it off with a great story and overall a good gaming exp. so props to them, i do hope activision gets their shit together, but i'm not supporting them, just some of the games that they "publish"

Medal of Honor 2010 (tier 3 or whatever) was... fun. but linear, actually i can't really remember the game since i played blackops, it was fun at the time, but i don't actually remember the game at all now.

i can't remember if it was this game or another where i just used the nade launcher to blast holes in buildings to go from building to building. oh well it prolly was, it seemed so long ago.

need for speed hot pursuit, it's an ok game, the cars are awesome, the story is... bleh.

idk none of the games since underground 2 has been as fun as underground 2. that includes undercover, which was prolyl the closest it has gotten.

eyebrows and threading

So last night I got my eyebrows threaded, which is a method that is better for your skin then plucking it out with tweezers. I had a friend do it for me since she recently learned how to on youtube and i was like what the hell. It's all neat and clean, i like very much. it hurts at first but you get used to it.

it's basically the thread becomes scissors concept wise but rather than cutting it pulls it out but it doesn't stress skin and cause wrinkles like plucking does.

I'm Japanese so this kinda "girly" thing really doesn't bother me. For me I'm highly amused.

so... NFS Shift, Halo ODST, Red Faction Guerilla

I recently got Need for Speed: Shift, the newest game to come out of the NFS franchise. It's back to pro street style rather than Undercover. No free roam... which for me already ruins part of the fun of the game.

In this game you have the option of first person view of the cockpit, which is pretty neat but since I'm playing on a PS3 controller (on pc) it's not really easy for me to play in this view. Getting the G25 would be an awesome edition for this game, the graphics are superb, the gameplay is decent, it really comes near Grand Tourismo series. that's really it, it's like that. the vehicle choices are decent, they even have my personal favorite car, the Nissian GTR (r35, "skyline") as well as the VSPEC version of it.

Could be better, I haven't beaten it yet. I don't really know how to review a racing game.

Halo ODST
I waited for the midnight launch, and frankly speaking, it's not worth a full game price.
The game is fast, maybe a few hours. There is a mappack so I guess you're paying for that. I have SGT Johnson.

The gameplay is fun, you can't be like MC going around taking on everything. When your armor goes you get damaged, and you find health packs to heal...

Weapons, shotgun, AR, silenced SMG, silenced Mag oh and sniper rifle. weak stuff, but I guess it makes sense. Different points of view you find out more about your squad. Yeah so I like the way it's told. But it's too short.

Firefight. it's intense, not really. it's repetitive and it gets progressively more difficult. weapon choice is poor, and it's repetitive.

but I enjoyed the game, I give it a 7

RFG
red faction guerilla.
Graphics are amazing, wish I was running it on 7 but i'm on XP still. the map is huge. repetition... high. it's like far cry 2. i'm sorry but that really gets old. some of the missions are plain impossible. for example, there is a mission where you have to knock out radio towers, well the entire enemy force is out in force trying to kill you. yeah near impossible. frustrating as hell.

graphics 9, gameplay 6, overall 7.5
